This is the Blog site of Amanda Samm.
I am a Nanna to six super grandchildren. I am retired from my day job, at last, and just beginning to learn to relax and enjoy my free time. So I’m not sure if I need the website, but I will keep it just for fun for a while longer. It might just be for photographs – I love nature/trees and bridges and water. I also take “before and after” shots of our home DIY projects, though I hope there will not be too much of that any more.
As well as poetry and photography, my interests include dancing, yoga/keep fit, and badminton. I love quizzes – on TV and in the pub, and enjoy scrabble and rummicub too.
Everything related to my creative writing and poetry is now on my other site, www.Yorkshirepen.co.uk
I’ve been writing poetry since I was 10 years old. I was encouraged by my dad, and appreciated by my mum and my older siblings. I was inspired by “The Book Of a Thousand Poems”, which I owned from about the age of seven, an anthology which has never gone out of print and continues to be one of the best loved sources of poetry for children.
I’ve continued to write poetry throughout my life – capturing moments of fun and family, and expressing my joy /sadness in any situation. My first poetry book In Search of Sympathy or a Cure – a collection of rhyming poetry, was published in 2016. A more comprehensive and varied book of my poetry was published in 2019, called Candle. Both books are available at my on-line shop at yorkshirepen.co.uk.
All photographs of waterfalls, viaducts, sunsets and trees have been taken off the poetry site are are in the gallery on this website.
